Join the US Forest Service, Gallatin National Forest, Yellowstone Ranger District for an adventure in outdoor recreation services. Located in scenic Big Timber and LIvingston, Montana the Yellowstone Ranger District has a very busy recreation program. We manage 10 developed campgrounds, 10 historic rental cabins, and over 60 busy trailheads. Attractions include alpine lakes, abundant wildlife viewing and awe inspiring mountain vistas. The intern will assist local managers with maintenance of developed recreation sites including vandalism repair, trash collection, routine maintenance and cleaning, and installation of signs. The intern will also provide educational information to visitors to the Bozeman District by answering questions, offering information, and installing informational signs at trailheads and other sites. Interns will also collect information concerning needed repairs to facilities. The interns will work as part of a team of two Forest Service Recreation Technicians and two volunteers.
Location Description
Big Timber, Montana is located in southwest Montana, approximately 1.5 hours north of Yellowstone National Park. Big Timber is located in a wide agricultural valley surrounded by the high peaks of the Absaroka, and Crazy Ranges. The population of Big Timber is approximately 1,500 people.
Training Provided
The intern will be trained in defensive driving, ?rst aid and cpr, bear safety, visitor contact safety, and recreation site management and maintenance.
Educational/Recreational Opportunities
Recreational opportunities in the area are numerous including: hiking, backpacking, climbing, boating, horseback riding, motorized sports, mountain biking, and ?shing.
